Shenora was born with a heart condition known as Ventricular Septal Defect , VSD. The cost for Total Correction Open Heart Surgery at a 50% discount from Korle bu is USD 6000 (23,454.0 GHS). The parents have been looking for financial support since she was diagnosed in 2014 when she was just 6 moths old. They came to us late last year.

VSD is a hole in the wall separating the two lower chambers of the heart.

In normal development, the wall between the chambers closes before the fetus is born, so that by birth, oxygen-rich blood is kept from mixing with the oxygen-poor blood. When the hole does not close, it may cause higher pressure in the heart or reduced oxygen to the body. Which is life threatening as the heart and lungs are working harder and the high pressure causes congestion in the arteries of the lungs leading to permanent damage.
